Vaginal Rejuvenation

Traitements santé féminine - Dre Elise Bernier

After childbirth or a hormonal imbalance due to menopause, it is common to see women suffering from complexities related to their reproductive organs.

To solve this problem, you can resort to vaginal rejuvenation. This procedure is a non-invasive treatment performed with a laser and offers several advantages.

What is vaginal rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation is a non-surgical treatment designed to help women reconnect with their femininity. It allows, among other things, to solve the various inconveniences caused by menopause due to hormonal changes.

People who use this approach usually suffer from:

  • burns,
  • itchy skin,
  • quite painful sexual intercourse,
  • vaginal dryness,
  • a loosening of the vaginal mucosa
  • sagging or loosening of the pelvic muscles.

The goal of vaginal rejuvenation is to restore the genital organ to its original functions and attributes.

Ann endovaginal laser is used during the treatment, eliminating the pain by tightening and strengthening the vaginal tissue in a few sessions.

It is a way to rejuvenate the vagina without heavy treatment. Changes are seen quickly and last 12 to 18 months after treatments and offer many benefits, such as:

  • Better lubrication (often diminished during menopause and source of irritation, pain and infections);
  • Increased sensitivity during sexual activity;
  • Toning the vaginal wall to hold the bladder and/or rectum in place. This can prevent, reduce, or even correct prolapse or descent of the bladder and/or rectum into the vaginal canal;
  • Pelvic floor strengthening;
  • Improvement in moderate stress urinary incontinence;
  • An improvement in the quality of sex life.
  • Stimulation of blood flow

In addition, this treatment has a few highlights that are worth a look at:

  • Little or no pain after treatment;
  • No convalescence (no cessation of daily activities);
  • Non-surgical procedure.

To better understand vaginal rejuvenation, it is essential to know how it works.

Vaginal rejuvenation: how does it work?

This treatment differs from intimate surgeries because it is performed without incision. A laser introduced into the vaginal canal will strengthen the vaginal mucosa, restoring its original characteristics.

The objective of the treatment is to stimulate the fibroblasts by acting directly on the connective tissue. This is done with a high-precision Erbium laser (Er: YAG 2940), which triggers collagen production via a photothermal process at the wall while protecting the mucosa.

This results in better vascularization and new collagen formation, leading to more firmness and support of the vaginal canal.

In addition, this therapeutic procedure returns the vaginal wall to its physiological state and a narrower channel. At the end of the treatment, the vulvovaginal mucosa regains its tone and moistness.

What to expect during treatment?

The rejuvenation procedure is simple and lasts only a short time. Comfortably placed in the gynecological position,

A speculum is inserted inside the vagina to dry the mucosa of all its secretions.

Next, the endovaginal laser probe is applied to the circumference of the vaginal wall to stimulate the body’s collagen production.

Many sessions might be required to achieve the desired goal.

The treatment is usually painless for the patient. In addition, no special care or recovery is required in the days following vaginal rejuvenation.

Sexual penetration is wholly contraindicated for three weeks after vaginal rejuvenation. Similarly, the use of any object capable of dilating the vaginal wall is prohibited from obtaining the best possible results.

How many sessions are required?

The number of treatments varies depending on the severity and depth of the problem. However, 1 to 4 sessions are generally sufficient to achieve a satisfactory result. For many patients, in only one or two sessions, considerable improvements were noticed.

After two visits, they observed a toning of the vaginal wall and better vaginal lubrication. If the desired results are experienced sooner than expected, continuing with the remaining sessions may not be necessary.

It is important to note that the sessions must be separated by several weeks for a good treatment follow-up (4 to 6 weeks). An annual maintenance session is also recommended.

Are there any contraindications?

The patient must take certain precautions to obtain a better result.

Like any other procedure, vaginal rejuvenation is a risky treatment. However, these are negligible and do not present any danger. Only a few sensitive women experience laser-related burns.
